Mohit Sharma retires from all formats of cricket

Mohit Sharma announced via his Instagram account that he was going to retire from all forms of cricket: “I’m announcing my retirement with this announcement, as I want to formally say thank you for all your support over the years. My journey has been an incredible experience. From the time I started to represent Haryana to the moment I put on the India shirt to play in the IPL, I felt I had had the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Mohit Sharma’s Rise from Domestic Cricket to International Star

Mohit had a very successful career for 14 years, which started when he made his first-class debut with Haryana in 2011. He debuted for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL a few years later in a T20 match and went on to represent India in 26 ODIs and eight T20s from 2013 to 2015, taking a total of 37 wickets in international limited-overs cricket.

From CSK to Gujarat: Mohit Sharma’s IPL Evolution

In the IPL, Mohit started as a new-ball bowler for CSK and then became the death-over specialist toward the end of his career. After playing for Kings XI Punjab, Mohit found new life at the age of 35 with the Gujarat Titans in 2023, taking 27 wickets and finishing as one of the close contenders for the Purple Cap.

Final IPL Chapter: Mohit Sharma’s 2025 Season with Delhi Capitals

In the 2025 season, he played with Delhi Capitals, appearing in eight matches, where over that period he took two wickets and had an economy of ten point twenty-eight. Recently, he was let go by the Delhi franchise.

Additionally, thank you to the BCCI, my coaches, my teammates, all the IPL franchises, support staff and all my friends for their love and support,” outlined Mohit.

“Thank you to my wife for putting up with my bad moods and anger; she was supportive of everything I did. I am looking forward to contributing to cricket in new ways.”

Mohit was tied for third overall in wicket-taking for India in the 2015 World Cup. Mohit took twenty-three wickets during the 2014 IPL season with Chennai Super Kings, winning the Purple Cap before making his international debut. Mohit participated in a total of one hundred twenty matches in the IPL, where he took one hundred thirty-four wickets.

In first-class, Mohit ended with one hundred twenty-seven wickets in forty-four matches, while he took eighty-six wickets in seventy-eight List A matches and a total of one hundred sixty-seven T20 wickets in one hundred seventy-two matches.
